Excellent historical information! We owe so much of our tarot knowledge to people like Moakley. I have been diving into the work of Michael Dummett as well, so much to unpack!
Thank you so much, I really do appreciate it! It was after reading Moakley that I really got into tarot history. Her theory had its flaws but they werent for a lack of trying, she got more right than she did wrong. It takes a few liberties but you can cram the procession into the tarot sequence. It's probably not the answer but it's definitely part of it. No doubt some people at the time would have seen Tarot and thought Petrarch. There is a detail i completely missed and should have had in this essay, Moakley referenced a Florentine catalog from 1532 for 'Game of the Triumphs of Petrarch' that she figured was a reference to Minchiate. As far as Dummett, I really enjoyed Wicked Pack, the lives of the fortune tellers make for a great story. I plan to eventually write about them : ) There is a full translation of Dummett's 1993 book Il Mondo (I think it was only ever released in Italian?) on this blog: https://dummettsmondo.blogspot.com/2015/07/chapter-1-part-of-4.html the full text of Moakley and Deckers books are over there as well.
